These are wonderful, and thank-you for putting them up so quickly in response to a cheeky request! I love the Mark Way ones particularly. They both are so very young, even in the one where he's firing so lethally from his Fe2B cockpit... Might I ask which edition those illustrations came from?

And although I have never read Worrals, those icons make me think I ought to. A very tough and determined young woman, obviously.

I'm fairly sure they're from the Norman Wright reprint, although I got the images from the Biggles website due to not being a millionaire. And I recommend Worrals! I've read three so far and they're cracking adventures in the Biggles mold, while also having a sort of girls school vibe for extra flavour.

I must revisit the Biggles website - it's been a while. And I will keep an eye out for all his books in the s/h shops now - though people seem to keep them until they fall apart, much like I did as a kiddie!

I will - my problem being that I do better with print books than with e-0books, so I'll have to start looking when I go back to my home country. It's going to be worth the hunt, I'm sure!

Those Worrals icons! They really capture the action-packed nature of the books so well. I particularly love #5, with the guy falling off the chair as Worrals pulls on the rug!

It was one of my favourite moments in the book so you can imagine my delight on discovering the illustration!

And is that first one Biggles and Mark when they crash at sea and swim around the ends of the lines? I love that story so so much.

Very nice! I really need to read, or listen to, Biggles Learns to Fly. I gather Mark Way is a Kiwi, so national pride kind of compels me. :D

I recommend it! There's some moments of secondhand embarrassment during the first few stories but that melts away to a general sense of adventure mixed with the usual Horrors Of War

Returning to this post to reply to a comment; and I can't help but jump in to say that I love 'Learns to Fly' as well. It's my favourite of all the Biggles books - so obviously taken from his own real-life experiences as a new pilot; the wonderful, the bad and the shatteringly awful.

And then there's Mark. Johns' own observer was wounded, and died, iirc. That comes under 'shatteringly awful'. Now wonder he re-wrote that part.
