Celebratory Biggles Icons

Today was the last day of the school year. In celebration at work we watched half of Anastasia and half of The Incredibles (the kids were too rowdy for a whole film). At home to celebrate I screamed into the coatrack for a bit then sat down and edited a crop of Biggles icons (and one Gimlet). Feel free to use these as you see fit.

All images have been lovingly borrowed from the Biggles website (the best site of all). I especially like the one of EvS from the back, because it prevents the ongoing issue that no one who illustrated Biggles could figure out how his best nemesis should look.

It's from The Camels are Coming, specifically J-9982 (a personal fave). I thought they looked very cosy in the illustration so of course I stole it for icons!

Huh, I don't have illustrations in that book/story :\ I wonder if it's a different edition.

According to The Website they are from the original hardback, which got them from the magazine versions.

The Website is the Biggles site as run by Dr Biggles (I think that is his preferred mode of adress XD). I've been using it A Lot for illustration references and also for info about different editions.

Yesssss I am taking some of these immediately. ♥ Is one of them carrying a dodo in #2?! And I see all sense for reasonable scale of crustaceans has been lost

Yes they are indeed holding a dodo while surrounded by dodos (it's from Biggles Charter Pilot). Whenever I see it I think of Kirk being pelted with tribbles, and it delights me even more. And yes the BIG CRAB is of fantastic size, I adore it.

I love these! Stealing lots of them at once! And delighted to see Charter Pilot so well represented, some of the stories in that are dreadful, but others I am never, ever going to be over. And what's #10 from?

Charter Pilot is one I've been dipping in and out of for some time, it is SO strange. #10 is from a reprint cover of Biggles Makes Ends Meet, I love the art style very much because of how extremely 60s it is.

I must ask - what did you use to make these? I have a quote which I desperately want to put on an icon but I have approximately the technical ability of a whelk.

I use a Definitely Legal copy of Photoshop which has a bit of a learning curve it must be admitted. For easier programs Canva is pretty good and has the advantage of being a website instead of software.

I would be happy to make an icon to order though if you wish!

That would be incredibly kind of you <3 and would no doubt turn out much better than any potential effort I might make!

This is the part where I have to admit that my favourite quote is the immortal line from Biggles in the Baltic: "Nice work, big boy," because no matter how many times I read it I still laugh EVERY TIME I remember that was a thing that Ginger actually said to Algy in words which were written down on the page...
