rosanicus: Alan and Davie from NTS Kidnapped (kidnapped)

Some months ago I discovered (through [personal profile] regshoe's posts) that the National Theatre of Scotland has an education portal through which you can watch proshot stage plays. Then I filed that information away in my mind where it sat, gathering dust, until this afternoon.

So I watched Kidnapped! And it was SO GOOD.

I confess that the only Stevenson I've read is Thrawn Janet (it's in a folk horror anthology) which I enjoyed but did actually give me a real life headache for no reason I can discern. But having seen various fannish joy over this stage adapation I thought I'd give it a try and oh boy did it deliver. I love how funny and wistful the whole piece was, and especially the narration. All over a wonderful experience, highly recommend it.

Now I'm off to read whatever Ao3 will offer me... and then probably the book, if I'm being honest. Maybe this will finally kick me into reading Flight of the Heron as well, I'm sensing a Jacobite invasion.

(The fact that watching a two hour stage musical prevented me from writing reports is neither here nor there, of course...)

:D :D

Oh, I'm delighted that you've watched and enjoyed it. (Especially without having read the book—it's good to know that the play can stand on its own without that context—although I do of course also recommend the book!) The humour and warmth of the whole thing are just wonderful, and Frances's narration is also one of my favourite things about it.

AO3 has some good things to offer you! It's a tiny fandom but a lovely one.

(Now, I'm sure Kidnapped is far more important and worthy than whatever reports you've not been writing :P )

I am undoubtedly going to go through the exact same process - I've got the link to the online version squirreled away for when I Get Round To It, and I am sure I will love it when I do. I remember loving the book aged about 10, but I can't actually remember anything about it now except that there were at least two h/c sequences, 10yo me being fundamentally very much like adult me...

:D Yay (and thank you for the kudos)! Oh, there is also this lovely drabble which wasn't posted to AO3, if you'd like one more.
